Alexandria, Va. 鈥 Feb. 19, 2021 鈥91制片, is pleased to announce the honorees of the 2021 .
Today鈥檚 announcement was held at the organization鈥檚 2021 virtual National Conference on Education. The award, sponsored by Horace Mann and 91制片, pays tribute to the talent, creativity and vision of outstanding women educational administrators in the nation鈥檚 public schools.
The honorees in each category were as follows:
- Superintendent Award: Noreen Bush, superintendent, Cedar Rapids Community School District, Cedar Rapids, Iowa
- Central Office/Principal Award (for any female central-office or building-level leader): Tanzy Kilcrease, assistant superintendent of teaching and learning, Bibb County School District, Macon, Ga.

鈥淲e need to see more and more bold initiatives take place in public education and one of them is recognizing the exceptional leadership from women who are making a positive difference in the lives of our children,鈥 said Daniel A. Domenech, executive director, 91制片. 鈥淭he Women in School Leadership Awards continue to serve as an example of a longstanding tradition at 91制片. A way to foster academic success is to increase more pathways for women educators鈥攕o they can become critical change agents in our school districts and our communities. We are grateful to Horace Mann for supporting this program.鈥
The applicants were measured against the following criteria:
- Leadership for learning 鈥 creativity in successfully meeting the needs of students in the school system
- Communication 鈥 strength in both personal and organizational communication
- Professionalism 鈥 constant improvement of administrative knowledge and skills, while providing professional development opportunities and motivation to others on the education team
- Community involvement 鈥 active participation in local community activities and an understanding of regional, national and international issues
