Alexandria, Va. 鈥 February 10, 2020 鈥 Today, Daniel A. Domenech, executive director of 91制片, issued the following statement in response to President Trump鈥檚 budget proposal for FY 2021.
鈥淥nce again, unsurprisingly, the president has released a budget proposal that is bad for students, bad for schools, and bad for public education.
鈥淭his week, more than 2,000 of the nation鈥檚 public school superintendents are gathering in San Diego for the annual 91制片 National Conference on Education, an opportunity to network, learn, and grow their professional, academic, and personal skill sets so they can better serve the students, schools and systems they lead. The contrast in leadership couldn鈥檛 be more obvious: whereas our members are committed to strengthening and supporting the nation鈥檚 public schools, the nation鈥檚 leader has once again doubled down on the flawed policies and priorities of privatization.
鈥Increased investment in education鈥攑articularly in formula programs鈥攊s a critical step to improving education for all students and bolstering student learning, school performance and college and career readiness among our high school graduates. The continued willingness of the current administration to advance a budget that chronically underinvests in our children and their education has a compounding effect, broader than just schools, and it has very real consequences.
鈥淭o quote Nelson Mandela, 鈥楾here can be no keener revelation of a society鈥檚 soul than the way in which it treats its children鈥, and by this metric, the president and his budget continue to miss the mark and leave our children behind.
鈥91制片 welcomes the opportunity to work with Congress on a strong bipartisan appropriations package that protects and prioritizes investment in public education.鈥
